An Apple a day...

There is constantly the ongoing debate of Apple vs PC.  They both offer unique features while maintaining the basic fundamental qualities of a personal operating system.  The following article is a look at the highlights of the head of Apple's accomplishments as he steps down from his position.  What do you think about Apple technology? Do you currently own any?  Which do you think is Job's greatest accomplishment and why?

  1. Apply technology is truly unique and has changed the 21st century. I own both an IPod and an IPhone and absolutely love them. I think Job's greatest accomplishment was changing how we view technology. He took what some thought to be impossible and made it possible. He, and Apple, have always been on the forefront of technology.

  2. Apple technology has brought some neat items to the world in my opinion. For instance the Ipod. The Ipod gave people the ability to download speaches from teachers onto a mobile divice that they can access anytime they need to. Currently I have an Ipod Touch, and looking into buying an Apple laptop and an Ipad 2. The Ipad is probably the most great accomplishment for Job in my opinion. You are able to access many applications for different things in life that you need. It also lets you access your emails, social networking programs, and just have games on there for time killers.

  3. I believe Apple technology is unbelievable, I personally see Apple as being the first to put any new device on the market, shortly after there is more than just the Apple's version. But, Jobs had a remarkable career in technology.
I've owned two of the famous devies, the IPod Touch and the third generation IPod Nano.
I believe Jobs greatest accomplishment was leading his company in the industry of technology, for the past several years.

  4. Apple Technology is pretty amazing, I think its the best. I have an Ipad. Ipads are not exactly what they are made out to be in my opinion, they are more for games and apps. Job's greatest accomplishment is probably the iphone, it was a breakthrough phone, putting access to many things that were never availible before into a pocket sized device.

  5. Apple Technology has come along way since their first revieling. I own an IPod touch and I love it so much. It has alot of cool updates since the first ipod came out. I think Job's greatest accomplishment was taking something so simple, and turning it into something everyone wants.

  6. Apple technology offers different & new great ways of communicating. I don't own anything from Apple. His greatest accomplishment was the iPad.

  8. Apple technology has truly grown and has changed the way people go about doing certain activities. I own an IPod, but I do not use it very much unless I am traveling a long distance. I think Job's greatest accomplishment is the IPhone. He was able to put everything a person needs all in one little device. Job's has made it possible to carry one small device that contains a computer, phone, and IPod.

  9. Apple technology is one of the most high tech devices in the 21st century. I think that it is a great invention. Who doesnt want to carry around their computer or music where ever they go? I think the Apple invention overall was a fantastic idea. I do own a ipod, which i love! Music is my all time favorite, all I do is listen to music, so being able to have a portable music player that fits right in my pocket suites well for me! Jobs greatest accomplishment was invention the ipad. Everything you can do on a computer you can do on an ipad. It is very useful for those who travel and even for those who are in school, to be able to port along their documents. He did the impossible!

  10. Apple has transformed modern technology. I ave an Ipod and there is no better way to listen to my music. Its small, easy to use, and can hold hundreds of my jams. Job's complishment of the Iphone is amazing. The ability of one is tremendous. Its hard to think he did all this without graduating from college and that is an amazing accomplishment as well.

  11. My personal opinions on apple technology have always been positive. I see them as a company that has taken the last decade by storm, in terms of innovative and revolutionizing technology. I believe it's come to the point where the majority of the worlds technology using population have owned, own or will own an apple product. I myself own one of it most popular items, the apple Ipod. An invention with such simplistic beauty, all other competition fail to compare. For these same reasons i believe that the apple Ipod is Steve Job's greatest accomplishment. It may not be his most fancy, high tech or even impressive, as far as abilities and tricks but the simplicity in which it operates to enhance the portable music playing experience is unmatched.

  12. I think apples technology has advanced so much, that it has paved the way for other "copy cats" to make way on the market as well. Apple seems to have always come out with a new and exciting gadget first. I currently do not own any apple products, but I have played around with some and they are pretty unique. I think Jobs greatest accomplishment would be the ipad. Not only will it take over the laptop but it is much more assessible to the average person and can still do everything a laptop can do. Its compact and light weight size is definately a plus.

  13. I believe Apple technology has taken over and become increasingly popular with its new gadgets. It is very current, the commercials make the new versions exciting and a must have! I have an iPod and an iPad. I like them both. I think that Job's greatest accomplishment has been improving Apple's sales. In the past Gates has controlled new technology, but now Job and Apple have caught up and in my opinion passed Gates in the technology race!

  14. Steve Jobs will and always will be remembered as an man who lead a company who pushed the limitations of technology. He will also be remembered as a man that changed the face of social normals.
Picture a world without the Ipod. Without the Iphone, without the Mac.
Its a very different world. You can't walk through the college today without seeing at least one person listening to an ipod, texting on there Iphone, or booting up their macs to do homework.
    Apple's devices are everywhere.
Not only do their devices play a huge role in our everyday lives, but every technology, software, and device on the market seems to borrow from theirs. Even devices and software not made by apple have been built to compete with them. To come up with a new idea to beat apple, or simply copy their ideas. (This has been the case in many copyright battles as of late. )
A world without Apple is a very different world indeed.

Now i personally have not been taken over by the Iphone or Macbook craze, though the Ipod did get me. (This was quickly replaced by an android phone though and now sets unused somewhere in the depth of a junk drawer.)
Personally I see many problems with apples devices and with their software. The limits set by Apple on what you can do with a device is to much, the limited software support for the mac, as well as the limitations playing flash on the Ipod/Iphone are a few. These lack of features that are such apart of everyday life for me have pushed me to pick others in their place. (I use a Windows Seven Computer and a android smart phone )

Steve Jobs, has lead an amazing life, and an amazing company. I think his greatest accomplishment would have to be the very first computer that apple released ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macintosh )
Though many would argue the Iphone or Ipod touch is the greatest. I still believe that the start is always the most impressive. Though the ability to continue growth and expansion is also an amazing asset of this company and of Steve Jobs.

  16. Apple has created technology that has morphed the way we have learned to live our lives today. In the 21st century, most people have become obsessed with technology. It's almost like technology runs our lives. Without a phone, or an iPod, many people would be on the verge of a breakdown. Which is sad to think about, but everyone knows it is the truth. I think Apple in many ways is to blame for this technology crazy, but then again, they are just trying to create a multi-billion company to please America. I currently own an iPod, I will admit that technology is in many ways useful for everyday life. However, I do not find the iPad very useful, in my opinion it is just another piece of technology for people to obsess over and spend thousands of dollars on. I would say Steve Job's biggest accomplishment was the iPod, that item really paved the way for technology and may be Apple's most successful technology. He made leaps and bounds for the world's technology advancements in which America should applaud him for, no matter your personal opinion on technology whether is be negative or positive.

  17. This is one that's only fully appreciated as a performance in retrospect.

At the All Things D digital conference in 2007, a meeting of the tech titans happened when Jobs and Microsoft's Bill Gates sat down together for an interview.

Gates reveals that he carries a tablet computer around with him all the time. He calls the then-nascent gadgets the future of computing.

"I think you'll have a full-screen device that you carry around and you'll do dramatically more reading off of that," says Gates. "I believe in the tablet form factor ... and then you'll have the device that fits in your pocket."

This was, of course, more than two years before Apple's iPad would be unveiled, but it's hard to imagine Jobs and company didn't already have it in the works.

The first time the word "tablet" is mentioned, Jobs swivels in his chair and appears to literally bite his lip.

The first words Jobs says about the future of computers? "The PC has proved to be very resilient."

He eventually allows that "post-PC devices" are part of the future. But his poker face is fun to watch with hindsight. miguel.r.sansavour

  18. Apple technology is the best thing there is coming in the new age soon the PC and MAC will all be a thing of the past, form the IPod to the IPhone and then the dawn of the IPad technology has truly come a long way from the cavemen days to the wright brothers and their vision of flight, and now job's greatest ideas
' the new age has arrived"

  19. The debate of Apple and PC has been going on for almost quater of a century, Apple has great life span and works very fast and effectivly as for pc, in my opinion is kinda fast but can get very slow if memory is full or any other small imperfection, as to an Apple with more high tec. qaulity of computer probably wouldnt or atleast it would give you a heads up of why its being so slow. An Apple is pretty expensive compared to a PC though. I would think so atleast. I dont reallly know anything about computers but to me, One of Apples great accomplishments is there computers life span it seems to be great quality of battery and many more great inventions and probly many more to come in the future. The best thing from PC is the variety of size, to teenie tiny to extra large, even large touch screen boxes:), You can buy a PC that’s pink, or transparent, or designed to be as close to indestructible as possible, pretty cool if you ask me but Apple is a much better quality of tec. in my opinion.I dont really know anything about technology though so its just an educated guess.

  20. I'll start by saying this: I am an Apple devotee. In fact, I'm writing this from my MacBook. I grew up on Macintosh ever since my dad brought home a Performa 575. To give you an idea of how long ago that was, floppy discs were all the rage, and my 'Around the World in 80 Days' video game that came on CD was something from the distant future. After the performa, we bought one of those (now iconic) blue iMacs, the all-in-one that came in an array of colors. (Ours was turquoise, and I thought it was the bomb). Our iMac total through the years has now stacked to a total of 4.

As for Steve Jobs leaving Apple, this is a genuine disappointment for me. Jobs is, simply put, a genius. He has an eye for the direction that technology is headed. He pushes things to their furthest. Look at any of the products he's been behind and it's easy to see. For example, the iMac. The iMac was the beginning of the all-in-one. You literally could take it out of the box, plug it in, and be on the internet in minutes. And this was the mid-ninties. Then came the iPod. The iPod and iTunes are so impossibly engrained into society that it changed not only the music industry, but the way that society listens to and shares music. Then the iPhone, and now the iPad. This is the best example I can think of, or that will exist in Jobs legacy. Jobs literally created a market that did not exist. The iPad wasn't the first tablet computer, it was just the first tablet computer that worked. Jobs has the ability to create a product that not only you want, but a product that causes you to think - how did I live without this before?
Jobs doesn't just deliver products, he knows how to sell them. He leads incredible symposiums at both WWDC special announcements for Apple that steal the press' eye time and time again. No one can work a room like Jobs. He takes his time, grants large pauses that don't feel showy or forced. He unveils things that have been under wraps for months, and never fails to impress.

Jobs leaving will no doubt hurt Apples reputation, and stock. Of course he isn't the only innovator at Apple, but he is the only one to have pushed the company this far. You can put someone in his position, but his eye can not be taught.

    I'm all for Apple.
    Can you tell?

  21. Personally, I have never been one to get caught up in the "hype" of any company's products. My brother works for Microsoft, though, so I feel like "Why should I pay for something else when I can get something that does the job for free?"

On the other hand, I received a 5th generation 60GB iPod my freshman year of high school (years ago) as a gift. It worked for me since then despite being submerged in water twice, dropped numerous times, and left in my car during North Dakota's extreme temperatures.

I am not someone who upgrades technology lightly. I go for the highest quality I can afford. I have often found myself thinking that Apple produces amazing hardware technology while Microsoft consistently puts out awesome software technology. I wish the two would merge. (Then we would become one step closer to the looming singularity.)

As far as what I believe Steve Job's greatest accomplishment is... Well, he did a really good job creating hype for his products. He made them exclusive and made people want to be in that exclusivity. He made deals with people and companies that would make them all money. Ultimately, Steve Jobs made the modern consumer really, truly want things. Whether that was good or bad is debatable.

  22. The Apple franchise is in my opinion the most advanced technology we have access to. I owned a Macbook and it's by far the best computer I've had. You never have to worry about it crashing from a virus and it never gets the lag most computers get after they become old. I think the greatest accomplishment is the Iphone because it is what other smartphones compete with. Every phone that is created tries to out do the Iphone but i feel none come close.

  23. I think that all Apple technology exceeds most electronic devices. It is revolutionary is every way. I own an iPod, an iPhone, and a MacBook Pro. Each device has provided me with much assistance and has yet to let me down. I absolutely love my MacBook and I will never go back to a PC. There are so many features that I prefer and in the 15 months I have owned it, I have encountered not one problem. I think Job's greatest accomplishment is coming from the background that he did, pursuing his dream, and following through with what he believed in. He is now, I believe, one of the most successful men in history.

  24. I think that Apple technology is really unique and different and has changed all technology for the other companies. I own an iPod and I think that I would be lost without it. Job's greatest accomplishment is changing the way that we view things today. I think he changed things for the better.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Well, I personally only have an iPod touch. And as far as I'm concerned, paying more for an Apple computer is basically paying more for a brand. I've owned and used both Apple computers and PC computers, and I can't really see much of a difference between the two, so I'm just as happy with a PC that I paid less for than an Apple computer that will last me about the same amount of time as a PC.

I think Job's greatest achievement has been the iPod. He took how we used to have music and combined them so you would no longer have to carry around a bunch of CD's, or tapes, or 8-tracks if people still had them. Now you can plug your iPod into your car so you can listen to your music through your stereo, it's like having an unlimited amount of CD's, and all the music you like!

  26. I believe that our world is shaped around Apple technology!!! PC is a very competitive opponent for Apple but I think that it still rises above PC. I personally own an ipod, and to be honest it's probably one of my better investments. I can take it anywhere, and enjoy its luxuries.
As for Job's, he is a very intelligent and creative man. I can't even imagine how you would be able think of all his inventions. But not only did he think of these products and create them, he sold them! He was able to get the American public to buy his product, and I think that that is his greatest accomplishment!!!

  27. Honestly my only apple product is an ipod. I think what steve jobs has created is amazing but I've never felt the need to get any other product of his company. All of his products are very cool and seem quite fantastic but also very pricy for me.

Don't get me wrong, I love my ipod but it was the most expensive thing I owned until my computer. I chose not to get a Mac simply because I heard that if a Mac breaks or gets a virus or any other such things that it was really difficult to get fixed. Also the Mac was so much more money than the other computers I looked at.

I think that what Steve Jobs did was amazing. He sold his product with a fantastic need to be "In" and made sure you knew that his products were the "in" product. He accomplished what I believe, is the goal of any and all inventors, techies, and businessmens; he made billions and made a lot of people happy in the process.

  28. Apple technology is a really great thing they have invented. I currently own and iPod and laptop and my family has an iPad. I don't think I could go anywhere without my iPod. Creating the iPod was probably one of the greatest things created. You can go anywhere with it. Jobs is probably one of the smartest guys ever.

  29. Apple Technology has changed rapidly since it first started. I own an ipod touch and I love it. There are so many different things you can do on it. The ipod touch has been updated drastically since the very first one was released and it just keeps getting better. I think the job's greatest accomplishment would probably have to be the iphone. It is full of a variety of different options and you can do so much on it.

Apple technology is such an impact on today's society. Most everyone either has an Ipod, iPhone, iPad, etc. In my eyes, Steve Job's inventions are hard to compare to each other. They are all great and useful in many ways. I do not have an iPhone or iPad but know people who have them. They say very great things about them. I do have an Ipod and I love it. I use it all the time whether it is on the bus ride to a game or if I'm sitting in my dorm room. I have currently had to get another Ipod because I wore my last one out.

Most people could not imagine going back to the way life used to be-no technology. Computers are so popular in America. Most people use computers for everything they do. Besides computers, phones are a huge deal. The iPhone is a combination of an iPod and a phone. Instead of buying a two-hundred dollar iPod, you can go and purchase an iPhone and get two in one.

  31. I believe that Apple has broadened the horizon for technology. They do not only focus on how to make their computer technology better but think outside of the box. They make new products that grow along with our society's hunger for new technology. I do own an iPod and know many people that really do love their iPhone. In my opinion Job's greatest accomplishment is being able to think outside of the box and always keep the customers interested in the new products that the company produces.

  32. I think Apple has some of the greatest products on the digital market today. The release of the iPhone opened doors to whole new worlds in the phone business. Adding internet and music to the mobile telephone gave users more options in times of boredom, not to mention the endless apps. I own an iPod touch and use it every day without fail. A great deal of electronics have problems and gliches and I struggle to find a fault in the newest iPod touch. It is difficult to choose Job's biggest accomplishment as he's had so many, but in my opinion I'd say the iPhone. The iPhone revolutionized cellphones as much as the laptop revolutionized computers. An impact that large, to me, is a great accomplishment.

  33. I myself have a Macbook Pro, an I-pod shuffle and an I phone 4 and every product I love! My I phone allows me to do pretty much anything I need to wherever I need to. Throughout the years that apple has been available to me, it has always fascinated me how such small objects can hold so much information and do such funky stuff! Personally, I love the look on apple products compared to other products on the market. They always look very modern and sleek and those are the types of things I want in my book bag!

Steve Job is clearly an extremely talented man but I think like the article points out, one of his greatest inventions and my favourite apple product is the I phone 4. The design, the features, and the camera all make the phone one of the best on the market.

  34. Apple Technology has taken over technology today. Job has created some of the most innovative products known to man. I only own an Apple iPod, but I've had the opportunity to use an iPad, Macbook, and iPhone. They're all amazing products that really do have it all.

I think that Job's greatest accomplishment would have to be the iPhone. It really does do just about everything anyone needs. It's literally a pocket sized computer. The iPad is also an amazing product. I'm looking forward to what Apple's going to come out with next. No other company can really compare.

  35. When it comes to portable entertainment devices I rank Apple number one. They far surpass any competition in this field but when it come to gaming units I feel they fall short. I especially hate the fact that their mouses are unable to right or left click, there is only a center click. I currently only own one fifth generation ipod nano blue and I have enjoyed it thusfar. When it comes to Steve Jobs I feel that his greatest accomplishment is his ability to continue to innovate while facing several difficulties in his life

  38. Apple has truly changed the whole aspect of computers and technology. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak created a technology empire that can be seen worldwide. Apple products have become increasingly popular and are in almost every home or work area. Almost everywhere a person goes, they will see someone using an iPad, iPod, or an iPhone. It is a growing trend that I believe will only increase in popularity over time.

In my opinion, I think that Apple is a great form of technology. It provieds a wide array of different and unique products that can serve many different purposes. These inovations are great for work, school, or just for playing games. There is an endless amount of applications tha can be downloaded, which can be used for almost anything. Although, some products can be a littly spendy, I believe that an Apple product is a great investment and worth the money.

Currently, I own only one Apple product which is my iPod touch. I absolutly love it and has been a reliable device. Later on, I hope that I can get another Apple product, such as the iPad or iPhone.

I think Steve Job's greatest accomplishment was creating the first Apple computer, the Macintosh. Without this first installment, the company of Apple would have never flourished into the great empire it is today. He was a genius for coming up with that idea and sticking with it to produce that computer. He innovated the technology world and started a revolution.

  39. I think we can all agree that this is the technology era and Mr. Jobs has definately got a strong-hold on it ever since the iPhone, MacBook, and iPad. Personally I have never gotten away from the PC, or Windows, programs simply because it is what I am used to.

Other than buying iPod's, which are common among all who enjoy music, I purchased an iPhone after my last phone crashed. I must say that I use it for almost everything and find it extrememly convenient. From using it's GPS to quickly looking something up on the internet, the iPhone is the answer. The device is very user-friendly and almost anyone who picks it up will be able to navigate though the applications. As spendy as the Apple machines are, it is almost impossible to get a virus in comparison to a Windows program. In the near future I do see myself buying either an iPad or a MacBook Pro.

Steve Job's story is quite interesting. From sitting in on college classes to surviving pancreatic cancer, the man is revolutionizing the digital world.

  41. I personally think apple technology is the best in the market for every product they put out.

I only own an Ipod due to the fact that apple is very expensive, which is reasonable given the quality of the products they put out. I like how apple computers are usually better at avoiding viruses.

I think Steve Jobs is pretty incredible, he has acomplished so much. To me, his most impressive acomplishment is his career as a whole. Just based on the fact he was given up for adoption early in his life and was in and out of school because his adoptive parents couldn't afford it, I find that what he has done has been really incredible. When generally people beleive you need to spend nearly a decade in school to be as successful as a man like him, he definatly proves otherwise, and I like that

  42. From personal experience owning a MacBook Pro, an Ipad, and also my second Iphone, I don't believe I will be getting anything different from the apple. Ever since the apple was introduced, it has significantly changed technology today. Apple is a hit! Every company out there is constantly finding ways to upgrade to the next level or be on the same level as apple. The first phone company to come out with an Iphone was AT&T, and now multiple other phone companies have also started coming out with them as well. Once you have something by apple wether its a computer, ipad, ipod or phone, they are hard to get rid of and move on to something else, or at least in my opinion. I believe Job's best accomplishments is that he truly has set a goal for every other company to look up to or try moving in the same direction, and he still followed his own dream. Apple is offered in more then one technology which is constanly bringing them to the next level. In my opinion, Job will go down as one of the most accomplised men in history. Apple truly has everything to offer and every day that pases apple is getting more and more advanced, it's never the end.

  43. Apples is one of the best known OS systems around with very few viruses and the funny thing about it is that they are not viruses they are Trajan horses made by apple because there is not a hacker that wants to brake into a mac because there is not enough users compared to the pc, and not only that but the hacking process is a lot more complicated with mac to pc

  45. I really like most of Apple's Devices. I'm really interested in all of their iDevices.

I own an iPhone 4 and would have to say the iPod touch/iPhone is his greatest accomplishment! I have learned how to jailbreak all the iDevices and have figured out many of the endless possibilities that you can do with the devices. For example: I can send my 3g or wifi that the iphone is connected to wirelessly to any other device (wifi teathering) also I can connect the iphone to a computer and use the iphone as a wireless card! I have found ways of getting just about anything for free and also learned how to customize your iDevice to basically any configuration that you want, Making the possibilities endless!

What do you think about Apple technology? Do you currently own any? Which do you think is Job's greatest accomplishment and why?

    ReplyDelete
  46. I think Apple makes a reliable product and succeeds at staying ahead of technology, though I cannot say I am infatuated with their products. They consistently invent a well tested, fairly fail proof device, put it in an attractive, sleek case, and then mark the price up twice as high as similar devices. This business model has worked well for them, and they have drawn a massive cult-like following around the world.
I have owned iPods in the past, but I have not seemed to grow fond of them as numerous people do. I do not think it is because of a sub-par product, because the device did exactly what it was supposed to; I just never have been big on music.
I think Job's greatest accomplishment is simplifying technology for the masses. Technology can be especially overwhelming for our parent's/grandparent's generation and Job's effectively made devices simple enough to be mastered by all. Most devices can be used for many purposes to the technically savvy like mentioned by Shawn Slaubaugh above, but my mom can do the basics and be content. It is sad to see Steve Jobs step down because it seems many companies fail to follow in the ex-owner's footsteps and cut corners due to greed; but we can hope they continue to stay on the fore front of technology as we grow older.
