Tablet Take Over

Tablets are the hot item in electronics right now and are currently taking over the technology industry.  Read the following article about just how fast their popularity is growing.  Also, tablets are so small and user friendly it has been suggested that they will be popping up in unfamiliar places before we know it.  The second article is about one such example.  Read both articles.  What do you think? Do you own a tablet already? If so, what kind and what do you think about it? If not, do you plan on getting one in the near future and what is appealing about tablets? What are some other uses you can think of for tablets? What are some pros and cons to the current technology boom?

  1. Tablets are a wonderful and useful device, though they are somewhat new to the technology scene they are already making an impact.
With the easy to use interface and small compact size, as well as bringing in your favorite apps and app versions of computer programs. They are changing the way we look at the computer scene.
Though tablets do lack the power and compatibility of a computer, they are quickly getting closer. Software makers are seeing this as a chance to sell to the consumers twice, the pc programs, and the apps.
The power is growing as well with tabs now pushing dual core CPU's with 1ghz speed.
The second idea of tablets to order I think is pointless, it further removes the personal aspects of a restaurant that is already left in ruin by fast food. If I am paying to eat out I want to be waited on, I want to enjoy conversation, not be thrown into an app ordering experience .
Though I do not think tablets will ever completely take over the PC and Mac market I think they will find their own place, and wont be leaving anytime soon.

  2. I think tablets are a very handy device that can allow many possibilities in the future, and most certainly will. I do not owna tablet, yet. i do not plan on getting one at the moment because I do have my laptop that serves my purposes on the internet, for now. i am positive that within a few years I will most likely own one.
I believe that some of the things out there for tablets, like as a waiter is ridiculous. It can take away the essence of the restaurant, like that of a fancy, or romantic one and turn it into the technology craved world that is nice to get out of everyonce in a while

  3. I think tablets are a great invention. They are small and portable and can do about anything that a computer can and more. I did own one but then it got broke from my niece. It was an Ipad, and it was great while i had it. I want to get an Ipad2 now. Games, music, apps to different things, like taking book for basketball or baseball. The advantage of the technology boom is that there are many different types of technology that you can use to get on the internet and find an answer for, but the con of the boom is that everyone is dependent on technology and is hurting our social skills

  4. I believe the tablets are a very useful invention, that create many oppertunities for new times to come. I personally do not yet own a tablet, but i intend to in the very near future. I dont see the new things out there for the tablet as far fetched ideas, but innovative and creative. I dont think it can do anything but the inhance the experiene of things like a resturant and what not. it leaves you with the best of both worlds, incorporating technology with natural aspects of the world as we know it.

  5. I think tablets are amazing..i really want one, they can do so much on them its incredible. I have never owned one, but like i said i want one really bad. i think its crazy how technology is taking over everything..that i don't like..and how they willl have tablets on tables at restraunts? i think that is getting to be a little much.

  6. I think tablets are nice devices that allow many possibilities. I feel people will soon be carrying around tablets compared to laptops. I do not owe a tablet and I am not one hundred percent sure I would want a tablet. I like how tablets making accessing the internet and favorite apps easier compared to computer. I think it is crazy that tablets are being used in restaurants. By using tablets in restaurants I feel it is taking away jobs.

  7. Personally, I do not like tablets. I absolutely despise this new technology push to have applications that can almost control EVERYTHING you do in life. It is annoying. The iPad will soon replace books and computers and CD's have long been dying since the iPod's came out. Soon there will be no physical objects for us to own, it will just be expensive pieces of technology that are not reliable because they can get hacked, or break very easily. When I read that article about how tablets could take over as being your waiter/waitress, I find that ridiculous. Technology taking over human jobs? With this economy we need job opportunities for humans NOT technology.

  8. I have an ipad and I am actually really disappointed. There are a lot of cool apps and features. However, I don't like that it is not easy to use for typing papers or that it can't play a lot of internet videos. I would never have spent the money if I knew how much I would actually use it. They are useful for gaming and wasting time but not much more than that. One of the high schools in my hometown gave ipads out to all students and they are expected to do their homework on them. They have been having issues. It was definitely not made for students to use for school. But I really like the idea of having them in restaurants. It won't take long until they over take more markets and more jobs. Technology is great but what will we do if depend on it too much for everything and it crashes.

  9. Tablets are pretty neat. I am poor indian and could never afford one though. If I work real hard and make some thing summer...I probably still wont get one. I don't need because I have lap top even though they are super neat. One use for a tablet I saw on tv is Daniel Tosh took the brand new ipad and Tee'd it up. He said it really helped his drive. A con to the boom is I probably won't have one and everyone else will.

  10. I think the tablets are useful for alot of things..I dont have one, but I plan on getting one. I do not think its a good idea to have tablets at every restaraunt...alot of people would lose their jobs and it would make things more complicated for people that dont know how to use them. Its a good idea because you wouldnt have to wait around to order if its really busy.

  11. I don't currently own a tablet and have no plans of investing in one. Put simply, I have my iPhone and my MacBook and that's all I need right now. Adding another expensive gadget would only ad to clutter and would take away from the simplicity. Not to mention the cost..

Reading about tablets in restaurants really makes me roll my eyes. Its the perfect example of the tech world permeating parts of culture that are in no such need of revamping. We do just fine without tablets at the table, and to be honest I feel like it would complicate things to no end. While some tablets may be able to entertain you while you wait or get an order into the system faster than a person might, you're taking away from so much of the dining experience. There's no tablet out there that can attend to your needs as a customer like that of a real human being. Its excessive and so unnecessary to even test the waters in this area. Dinner is a chance for you to get out and visit with your friends or family over a meal, and to be serviced in a (hopefully) personable manner. And they talk about how the tablets will include a tip calculator? Who am I tipping if I'm being waited on by a tablet? Why would you want to take jobs away from people?
I think it would be prudent to keep this form of tech should stay out of the service industry.

  12. This is crazy that people the tablet industry is booming i would have never guessed it would have taken off this big. I don't own a tablet because i have an Iphone so i really don't need an Ipad that's not a necessity for me at the time. So I'm prolly not going to be going out and buying a tablet very soon. Some other uses would be like a computer for college classes it would make life easier, but the price is a little high for students. Some pros and cons to the tech boom would be it is going to help the economy because everyone wants the next big thing but it could cause a problem because soon we will be realign on the tablet to do everything and that makes life to easy we all would just be coasting through the days.

  13. I think that the tablet industry is a great new thing and the people buying them are actually benefiting from them. My family has an iPad that we share. We mainly use it for looking up things on the internet and playing games. I think that the majority of the time the iPad is faster than our computers so I like that part. I don't know of any specific uses but I am sure the possibilities will only go up. Recently, I went to a restaurant and they had a tablet at the order window that the employee punched in my order and it was sent to the kitchen. then the bill was rung up and I swiped my card in a special thing and she turned the tablet to me and I signed with my finger right on the tablet and then it sent the receipt to a wireless printer! It was the first time I had even thought about using the tablets for businesses. I think that with all good things come some bad though. For example, if a restaurant gets these tablets they won't need to hire as many employees and if the system shuts down for some reason they are out of luck for business for the day.

  14. i think tablets are pretty cool! there like mini pcs that you can carry around and download apps. the only bad thing about it is that they are slowly going to replace books and computers, but now-a-days that technology. technology is booming. there are pros and cons. the pros are that new technology are helpful to find information and useful for some companies, but the con of technology is that people are becoming attached and they will take over. people will get so used to doing everything using technology that when its not there they dont know what they thought they did. i do not own a tablet but i do plan on getting an ipad.

  15. I think that tablets are very great invention, although i do not own a tablet i'm positive that i will have one in the near future.I'm not to familiar with the features but i'm willing to try it out.some other features on the tablet as far as i know is that u can make movies in real time.the pros of tech. is that there are some many different tech that uses the internet people are not as dependent on the PC or MAC anymore, but sadly although that is very good in workfield it has an impact on our abliity to socialize.

  16. I think that all of these tablets coming out can be both good and bad.I do not own a tablet but my boyfriend and I were thinking about getting one. We want one because sometimes, like on road trips, they would be way more conveniant than bringing a laptop. I would use it to read books or store pictures and what not on there, basically like my computer now. With tablets possibly being used in restaraunts I think that could turn out not so good. If they are basically doing the waitresses job aside from delivering the food then what are waitresses supposed to do. People could possibly lose there job over it. The good thing about it though is making everything more conveniant to get access of.

  17. I already have a tablet, it is an ASUS EEEPad Transformer and i enjoy having it because the fact that I can do thing that need to be done on the internet with out stopping and sitting down with a laptop or even a desktop computer this way you can keep walking to the destination you are heading and keep working on what you were.
In cafe's they should start getting tablets in the building but instead of the customers having them they should but the ordering system on it and have the waiter or waitress take the orders on it instead.

  18. Wow what a wonderful invention! Tablets come in handy all the time. They are user friendly, small, easy to store, and you can do vertually anything on them. I personally don't own one or used one before, but I have heard many things about them. I think that it's wonderful how convenient these things are, but my worry comes once again on people being too reliant on them. I fear that the people of the world will soon be so focused on technology and all the accessories they will forget all the skills they learned growing up. When phones, computers, and other day to day used technology people are lost, kids don't know what to do for fun, nobody knows what real work is!!!

  19. I don't currently own a tablet, but I would really like to! If it wasn't for their higher price, I probably would own one already because I think they're pretty neat. I definitely plan on buying one when I begin working more, I think they would be really nice to have especially keeping up with the hectic college life. Tablets are good for many things, such as keeping yourself busy whilst you're waiting for something (e.g., plane, train, bus etc.) Also, you can do homework on them and browse the internet.
A few pros for the technology boom, is that they are making a lot of technological advances. Many of these things are paving the way for bigger and better things of the future.
A couple of cons are that the technology boom is taking place in the modern day recession. All these technological advances are quite expensive during a time when people don't necessarily have money to spare.

  20. I think the second article was much more interesting. I already knew tablets were taking over and didn't really care to read an article saying how much money the 3 people at the top of the companies are getting paid. I do not own a tablet but think they are a good invention and that as soon as i make a good sum of money I'll probably get one.

Tablets are a good invention, i think, because portability is a big thing now-a-days and the tablet is basically a more mobile computer.

The Technology boom is good but at some point its going to take over everything and technology is going to take over the jobs that we need.

  21. Tablets EHHHH? I personally don't have any type of tablet but I would invest in an I-pad in a heart beat if I had the money. Its pretty crazy how much people benefit from having tablets in today's world. They are generally at least twice as fast as any computer and they are capable of doing so much! Its amazing that tablets will soon be seen in restaurants however, a big negative this will have is that many people will be loosing jobs due to the advancement of such technology. The tablets, from what I know, are a very handy item to have I just hope they don't cause the unemployment rate to plummet.

  22. I think tablets are a good invention. It has the capabilities to do so much so you can get most of the stuff you need done finished just by using it. I don't own one but its something that I would like to get because it is so convienient. You can surf the web check emails, listen to music and read books without moving out of your bed. The bad thing about it is people may become to attached to them so that they don't do anything else. Good things about it is that everything is on there.

  23. I think that tablets are pretty neat. I dont own a tablet but if i were to i think that would be pretty neat. I dont plan on purchasing a tablet because they are a not needed expense and i can do more things with my computer and i am not often far away from it. Maybe they would be good for mechanics to look up parts and things. They might also be good for astronauts to do space things and im sure that tablets work well in space, but i dont know. Some pros to the technology boom is that people have to do a lot less physical work. Some of the cons to the technology boom is that people don't have to do much physical work and theft is also a lot easier because people don't have to physically steal people stuff, they can just hack mainframes and jack peoples junk.

  24. I own a MacBook Pro and I absolutely love it. I use it for everything and anything. I have never had a problem with it yet and I would strongly recommend this type of tablet to any user. Tablets could also be used for taking stats for sports games. I think that the fact that an ipad will become a server in a restaurant is a good idea, but this adds to the idea that people are becoming less and less social. In a few years I believe people will find it more difficult to converse with each other.

  25. I think that tablets are a very cool idea. They could be very useful in your life, I think. I do not currently own one, but I kind of want one. I have a laptop that I use a lot. I think the app for a restaurant is a little crazy. Going out to the restaurant means you are waited on and if you get the tablet for that, it could almost seem like you are at the fast food place. People are more worried about their technology than they are in life.

Tablets are sweet! They have so many different applications. So many people rely on these tablets, along with other technological devices that soon people won't even open up a book. I do not own a tablet of my own. I think it would be neat to own one. If I got my own it would be because it takes up less room and I could bring it with me anywhere.

  27. I think tablets are pretty awesome and would be flexible to whatever you need. I feel like people will be carrying around tablets instead of laptops for many reasons but mainly because they are a lot easier to transport. I dont personally own a tablet but if i got the opportunity to own one i definitely would. I like that tablets make it easier to connect to the internet being away from your home, laptops are obviously easy to carry around also and connect to the internet but the fact that a laptop is so much bigger, a tablet just seems to be the perfect fit. They are user friendly, small, easy to store and many other things. I think it is crazy that tablets are being used in restaurants and in business' but yet it makes a lot of sense being how easy and common sense they work.

  28. i think the tablets is the best invition right now they have the ipod it has so many apps school sports any application u feel u need people can connect to the internet they can watch movies.so its agreat device to have around i think the thought of it moveing up to 75 billion by 2015 is not a suprise to any one

  29. I think that tablets are a great new option in the world of electronics. I do not currently own one but would like to buy one soon. In my opinion they are something very portable and easy to carry and just something different. Some uses for the tablet would be something such as a planner. Instead of using your phone or a planner that uses paper it would keep track of your schedule instead.
To be honest I do not think that using tablets as a waitress so to speak is a very good idea. Especially now when our economy is in this bad of shape. If the tablet replaces waiters or waitresses many jobs would be lost that we need so much. I think that in some ways we are becoming too dependent on technology and that is a perfect example. Maybe the waitresses or waiters could use tablets to directly send the orders to the cooks and spend more time on customers rather than running back and forth putting orders in.

  30. I dont have a tablet, if i did i might be more into them, most things i can use my phone ipod touch or my laptop, a tablet would be more conveinent for a car ride and a plane or train ride, most definately wouldve been nice for the long sports bus rides back in college.

  31. What do you think? [I think that tablets will emerge as a great societal tool, especially as they continue to evolve and decrease in price.] Do you own a tablet already? [No, I'm waiting for the "perfect" one.] If so, what kind and what do you think about it? If not, do you plan on getting one in the near future and what is appealing about tablets? [I don't really plan on getting one in the near future. As a college student I feel as though it is unnecessary and inappropriate (as far as "living above my means") for me to own one. I can definitely see myself having one in the future to help organize and manage my business and have something fun in my life. 'Cause hey, it's cheaper than a car!] What are some other uses you can think of for tablets? [Tablets will be a great teaching tool in the future, especially for the new and upcoming generations of elementary school students. I'm thinking along the lines of like, my grandchildren's generation. But they will be able to give one to each student and teach them things that would be impossible with a chalkboard, construction paper, and glue sticks.] What are some pros and cons to the current technology boom? [Pros: life isn't necessarily more convenient, but much more accessible; it's helping the economy (but kind of the wrong side) Cons: the rich are getting richer (*ahem* SteveJobsBillGates), it's getting much harder for people without the means to keep up with the times, whatever happened to making do with what you had?

  32. I do not have a tablet, But if I invested in one I like to think I would get an iPad2 just for the simple fact that it would communicate very well with my iPhone. Other than that I would get something else because your pretty limited to what you can do on an iPad because the iOS and I would have to research the different tablets available on the market to make a final decision, but the motorola zoom looks pretty sweet.

Some uses for a tablet would be any kind of light computer usage. For insistence i'm not going to be doing huge tasks on a tablet nor would I surf the web for hours on it, but if I had to check something out quick on the internet I would use it. Maybe even for movies on the go or music and apps of course. I'm excited to see what the new technology era is going to bring us in terms of devices and lifestyles.

  33. I think both articles are interesting in the sense that these tablets have become a product most people think they must have. I don't know if I would want to order food at restaurants off of a tablet. I do not own a tablet and I don't plan on going out and buying one anytime soon. They are appealing for the well marketed image (trendiness) which is backed up with solid technology. It is really a good product to have. To me, that is appeal in itself. Tablets could be used by hockey teams to record stats ie. Hits, shots, plus/minus, turnovers, takeaways etc. The technology boom has come with a release of brand new, easy to use, and very nice products. This is great for the consumer as these products can make life easier for many people. However, when you replace people with technology, like the tablet will eventually do if it makes it in the restaurant business; you put people out of work. This is bad in the sense that the tablet and other technologies can be making life easier for those who can afford them but putting people out of work at the same time.

  34. I do not own a tablet, yet those I know with iPads love them. I thought they were a useless item, but they have created a very neat niche in the market. My personal opinion on them has changed dramatically after seeing how useful they can be due to their light-weight build, great battery life, and portability. While ring shopping for my fiance, a ring manufacturer actually had a tablet at the store so I could view items on their website that were not in store. I have also heard vehicle manufacturers may give new owners tablets instead of paper manuals due to their ease of use and affordability. The only downside of tablets at this point is their dependency on wi-fi or a spendy contract with a cell phone carrier.
