I should definietly study up more because I didn't do too hot on the quiz!! What I found most interesting though would have to be the helicopter by Da Vinci. He is well known as an artist but obviously had a lot more talents then that!
ReplyDeletehttp://americanhistory.si.edu/onthemove/themes/story_50_1.html
The article I found describes transportation changes and the technology that went with it from as far back as the 1800's til now. The article discusses the power and energy created to make such transportation as the steam engine locamotive possible.
Kira
I thihk that the most worth while invention was the early invention of a concept helicopter simple because it was so far beyond its time.
ReplyDeleteNot that this concept would actually work well enough to actually be useful. But its concept is amazing.
http://www.fastesttrain.org/
The link that i have picked outlines the fastest trains in the world. Though this is a technology that the USA has never implemented, this is a huge advancement. This rail systems provide cheaper and fast travel.
I did not do very well on that quiz! hah. to me i think the most interesting one would be Da vinci because he is not known for designing a helicopter type flying machine. Im sure not many people realized he helped create that.
ReplyDeletehttp://americanhistory.si.edu/onthemove/themes/story_50_1.html
This article shows things from the 1800s till recently. They talked about the train, steam engine and 'peterbilt conventional tractor' also known as a semi. It talks about the changes to make these things possible.
I did somehwat okay on this test, better than I thought I would, but still failed haha. I think the most worthwhile invention in techonology was flying. Think of how many people fly today, it is very convienent nowadays.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.endoftimes.net/05goldenage03.html
In the middle of this article in the Advances in Transportation sub heading, is kind of interesting because try to predict the future part of transportation side of the story rather than the history, grante dthey are being very radical, they have good ideas.
I got 8 out of 10 on the quiz, which wasn't too bad. I admit that I did a lot of guessing though. I found the most interesting was that the first submarine's nickname was the turtle and it was invented far earlier than I thought it would have been!
ReplyDeleteI choose this article on disappearing car doors
http://www.disappearing-car-door.com/
Which is insane, they are designing cars where the doors will literally fold underneath the car, which seems not safe at all and kind of worthless, but hey, whatever floats your boat.
I did not do very well on the quiz. I remember talking about lots of them, just couldn't remember. I thought that the plane was the best invention. It gave a new meaning to transportation. It was faster than train or by land.
ReplyDeletehttp://blogs.howstuffworks.com/2010/12/08/invention-foodtubes-a-new-way-to-transport-freight-that-eliminates-most-trucks/
This link leads you to a vido of a new way that food and freight may be transfered
I recieved a 10 out of 10 on the quiz which brought no surprise to me du4e to the intellectual grace i was blessed with. On another note i believe that the plane was the best invention. It revolutionized overseas travel and simplified inland travel as well.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=5&sqi=2&ved=0CGEQtwIwBA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cbsnews.com%2Fvideo%2Fwatch%2F%3Fid%3D1462288n&ei=MpTKTqeMHNC2tgeNzaWDDA&usg=AFQjCNGLkDqtIr-E58Wb0A3oM3EZusDGZA&sig2=YzvE9uYsM-xDitdwiXOASQ
this ling leads you to a self parking video, which i believe to be an AMAZING innovation.
The best invention was the airplane because it made travel time alot faster..and probably cheaper.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.hybridcars.com/electric-car
I think these cars are SO ugly but they're also amazing cars. They are powered by an electric motor instead of gasoline. The bad thing about them is you can only drive about 100 miles before they have to recharge and it takes quite a while to do that...but the cars are cheaper to run and they dont pollute the atmosphere.
I got a 50% on the quiz. Things were going so well at first, then it all went downhill. Anyway - I have a hard time debating between locomotion technology and flight technology as the most innovative. Obviously one seems more advanced than the other, but locomotive transportation is so practical. I love traveling by train, however I think that man-made flight wins this round.
ReplyDeleteBack to locomotive-esque tech, I love the idea of bullet trains. I've never ridden one, but I've read that they can travel at roughly 186mph. Considerably slower than a plan, but also has the ability to carry loads of passengers and at a fraction of the cost.
Here's an article about planned bullet train futures in Japan:
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-11-13/west-japan-rail-to-double-bullet-trains-on-most-profitable-route.html
I thought the sound barrier on was very cool. How it was dropped out of the belly of another plane and then reached such speeds.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2011/11/14/kindle-fire-review-good-product-despite-some-sacrifices/
This is about the new Kindle Fire. Tablets are getting more popular and I think they are a something that will keep growing. This is a newer cheaper from of reader but has disadvantages. Anyways. I get to to go home wednesday! Yes. been far tooooo looonnng!
I think the most interesting one was the helicopter by Da Vinci. It was most interesting to me because it helped bring about to technology that we have these days. With all the ways we can travel the world.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.dna.gov/solving-crimes/cold-cases/longandshort/technologyadvancements
With advances in technology law enforcements have been able to solve old crime scenes with newer DNA technology. With newer DNA analysis techniques laboratories can develop profiles from biological evidence invisible to the naked eye, such as skin cells left on ligatures or weapons.
I thought that many of the inventions were worthwhile considering they were invented a long time ago and most of them are still being used today. Yes, they have changed a lot but the general concept is the same. cars, airplanes, motorcycles, trains are all major modes of transportation that the world would be lost without.
ReplyDeletehttp://climatecolab.org/web/guest/plans/-/plans/contestId/5/planId/15207
These personal transit grids seem like something that would be in movies! The article makes them sound like the best idea in the world but I don't think that they will be able to totally replace the car. I think that the concept would work in bigger cities where the weather is nice but I know for a fact that it would not work in my life.
I liked the helicopter by Da Vinci. He was way ahead of his time.
ReplyDeletehttp://americanhistory.si.edu/onthemove/themes/story_50_1.html
This article is about the changes in transportation power. It starts with animal power and moves through the years to electricity. I think this is interesting because without these advancements transportation would not be as efficient or productive. Making changes (think animal power to steam) improved everyone's lives and connected people worldwide. It's interesting to see just how far we've come.
The most worthwhile invention was the helicopter by Da Vinci, as far my knowledge is in history he was a world renound artist, knowing that he also invented the helicopter means that his artistic mind reach a lot further than the canvas.

this video I paticularly love because it gives accounts of surfers, motocross racers and also some of honda's sponsored racers about creating mobility for the future, from solar cell the produces electricity from electricity to hydrogen to power cars that's what Honda's invisioning in the near future, and I'm waiting anxiously to see and feel while I'm on the road.
I think that the motorcycle was the best, because of the fact that now we have something that we can use to go places that don't use so much gas.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.sea.siemens.com/us/Products/Drives/Pages/drives-home.aspx#
This is an article that talks about the innovative discovery of the electric car
I think that the Wright Bros. invention of the airplane is definitely the most useful of these ten inventions. The first succesful breaking of the sound barrier was also very useful. Airplanes are currently the fastest and most effective way to travel the worlds. So without these inventions we would still basically be cavemen.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.research.ibm.com/quantuminfo/teleportation/
This link talks about the possibility of teleportation. It already has been done with very small particles.
I think the most worth while invention is the air plane because it is used all around the world for transportation and many people depend on it.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.swedetrack.com/
The innovation is the Swedish Fly Way which is an above ground transportation system. The traffic lane is formed from a rectangular steel beam, with a slot underneath. It is used above ground and in tunnels. Small electric vehicles, travelling inside the beam, carry cabins and other loads beneath the beam.
I think that the most worthwhile invention would be the gas powered vehicle. It is the main source of transportation for most people today. The technology has come a long way and now they are coming out with many new things for cars and trucks.
ReplyDeletehttp://americanhistory.si.edu/onthemove/themes/story_50_1.html
This article was about how much transportation has advanced over the years. It talked about how we have gone from using animals as a source of transportation to now coming out with electrically run cars today.
In the quiz, I got 7 out of 10 right. I thought that the most interesting fact was the one about Da Vinci inventing the helicopter. That would have been a major revolation and innovation in that period. Most people only know Da Vinci for his most common inventions, so this is cool to know that he had the idea for the helicopter.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.forbes.com/2006/11/09/transportation-engine-inventions-ent-cz_sc_1109transport_slide.html
This article from Forbes is describing many different types of transportation inventions that have been made in the past 100 years. The one I found most interesting was the GPS. Eighteen satellites, six in each of three orbital planes spaced 120 degrees apart, and their ground stations, formed the original GPS. GPS uses these satellites as reference points to calculate geographical positions. In that past years, researchers have come up with better ideas to make the signal more accurate and reliable.
I believe that the most worth while invention was the airplane. It has made traveling quick and convinient most of the time.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.alternative-energy-news.info/technology/transportation/
This article featured many different types of new transportation ideas or inventions. The one I liked the most was a solar powered wheel chair. The man who has had polio since the age of 4 took his solar powered wheel chair on a 200 mile journey.
I got half of them right on the quiz! I think that the most interesting one was the helicopter by Da Vinci.
ReplyDeletehttp://faculty.washington.edu/jbs/itrans/
This article talks about electric cars.
The most worthwhile invention, to me, is the submarine. The world is mostly water. The submarine became a way to not only transport ourselves in another medium, but also allow us to explore places we've never been.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/r/railwidth.htm
This is something that we don't think about everyday regarding transportation. Everything is, and has all the details. But why did things end up how they are? This article describes how Europe's and the US railroad tracks came to a standard width measurement of 4'8". I mean really, I bet you never even thought to question the width of railroad tracks.
Out of all the innovative inventions mentioned in the quiz I would have to say that I think the plane was the most worth while. Today air transportation is a very common way to travel.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.inventor-strategies.com/latest-inventions.html
This invention is an advanced jet-pack invented by an ex-Swiss Air Force fighter pilot. Using four small jet engines attached to carbon wings, it can reach speeds up to 205 MPH before it can deploy a parachute for landing.
I think that the airplane is definitely the most useful invention ever made. It is the fastest most efficient way to travel. It's not necessarily cheap but with gas prices rising the airplane can be cheaper than driving long distances.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.ultraglobalprt.com/how-it-works/
I found the Ultra personal rapid transit (PRT). It is a small compact, electrical, driverless vehicle. It i very environmentally friendly. It is lightweight and convenient for everyone.
I got 8 out of 10 on the quiz and i thought the designs by Leonardo Da Vinci are the most important. I think this because he was one of the frist to question if human flight were possible. Without someone first asking the question there would be no one to find the answer to the question. I think that without Da Vinci designing a vehicle for human flight, there would be a significant impact on how far along we are with human flight.
ReplyDeletehttp://science.howstuffworks.com/transport/flight/modern/hot-air-balloon7.htm
Hot air ballooning is a very interesting topic in my opinion. I think hot air ballooning is a great invention. I mean think about it...a balloon that can take you into the air just by heatin the air inside the balloon. No fuel, not really any limitations except for the changing atmosphere with higher altitudes. I think it was a great invention and one that is greatly overlooked.
I think the most worthwhile invention was a gas powered vehicle. I think cars are absolutely amazing creations and they continually get more advanced from day to day. Without gas powered vehicles our world would be a completely different place. Thank you mr. Benz!
ReplyDeletehttp://climatecolab.org/web/guest/plans/-/plans/contestId/5/planId/15207
I found a link that discusses the ideas of sky trains within cities. There are a few photos of what the train itself would look like and another of what the railways it would run on would look like. I think this would be super cool because it would save money for people on gas. The train would run right outside housing complexes and such.
The first aircraft was the best! How would we get around if such a thing wasn't invented? We'd be spending hours on the road and in boats. Hahahahaha! HILARIOUS RIGHT? LMAO!
ReplyDeletehttp://faculty.washington.edu/jbs/itrans/prtquick.htm?gclid=CK6Hzev536wCFQpV7AodKw6P3g
This one was about personal rapid transit. It carries four or less people in a little car thing off road. So that's pretty awesome. I'd like to ride in one. It looks really like ummmm smooth and compact.
I would have to say that the airplane was the most important. Simply because you wouldn't be able to travel all the places you hear about. Everyone would only travel so far. On holidays it would be difficult for families to be able to get together and have a good time.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/pioneers_touchscreen_car_stereo_doubles_backseat_driver
In this article I found that this Device allows for so many things. Music connected almost anyway imaginable for instance: iphone via usb/bluetooth, 4gb internal storage, micro sd card slot, cd, dvd, and pandora internet radio. There is quite alot of features available in this device and almost makes your out-of-date vehicle back ahead of the curve.
I got a 50% on the quiz. Things were going OK. Anyway I have a hard time debating between locomotion technology and flight technology as the most innovative. Obviously one seems more advanced than the other. But then locomotive transportation is so practical. I like to traveling by airplane.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/03/nyregion/after-toll-increases-less-traffic-and-more-train-riders.html?_r=1&ref=transportation
Did you know that the rise in tolls on Port Authority of New York and New Jersey bridges and tunnels in September may have caused many commuters to leave their cars at home and switch to public transportation, early reports from the agency show.
LaShane Wobbema
I am going to have to go the plane is the most important because that is how pro hockey players travel to games, that is how I am getting home for Christmas and that is how the Teton Hockey Team will travel to the NJCAA National Tournament!
ReplyDeletehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catapult
This is the Wikipedia page for the Catapult. One of the most risky methods of travel but I am sure it is fun. Used in combat for its raw power but I am sure a few humans slipped in there!
I didn't do to well on the quiz, but I have to say that I think the coolest question on there was about the plane breaking the sound barrier. I thought this was the coolest because flying was an awesome invention, and people took that and made it even more awesome because we made it even better and faster.
ReplyDeletehttp://seabreacher.com/watercraft
The weird mode of transportation I found was called the seabreacher, it's essentially a personal submarine. I found this pretty cool because you could bring this thing anywhere, to any lake or ocean and use it as a Jet-Ski that can go underwater. I want one!
