It seems that applications are becoming a part of every thing in society. We've all heard the phrase "There's an app for that" and it is becoming more and more true with every passing day. Here is an article about 5 aps that "celebrate laziness!" Not exactly something I think we should CELEBRATE but definitely something that is kind of interesting to think about. Which of the five would you most likely incorperate into your life? How do you think the constant onset of new aps affects our society? Do you tend to stay up to date on the current aplication advances? Also, do you have any applications installed on your phone, computer, etc. that you use regularly? Finally, state one app you would like to see created and explain briefly how it would potentially work.

ReplyDeleteIf i had to choose i would incorporate the snooze app in my life. For the simple reason i enjoy giving to charities and to the less fortunate. My take on the constant onset of new aps betters our society as a whole, giving us shortcuts to improve daily proficiency and time managment. As far as keeping up to date with all the aplicational advances, i'd say im behind but try to do the best i can. With my schedule it's hard but i make it work. I myself do not currently have an application i use regularly but i see alot that could definitely be beneficial. An idea for an app i would come up with would be an app create a blueprint of your home and the rest fo the buildings you regularly visit, it would work by recieveing a satelite message that would display the dimesions on the building you are currently in.
ReplyDeleteEveryone of those apps are ridiculous. I don't think i could use any of them they are all pretty pointless. I think the zombies one is actually kind of funny. but i doubt i'd actually download it. I don't actually use many apps on my phone mostly just random games i hardly ever play. like solitaire:) that is one that i do use. I don't usually stay up to date, i think of apps more for games than other things, but i do realize there are alot of other kind of apps out there, they just never catch my attention enough for me to download.
ReplyDeleteI think that all of these apps are dumb and someone has no life to come up with such apps. There are some apps that are helpful to people, like business people, there are apps out there that can probably keep all your appointments, meetings, projects, etc on. No i do not keep up to date on the apps and their upgrades to everything. I have facebook, netflix, and hotmail downloaded onto my ipod so i can keep myself intertained and keeping up with friends. I don't think i would create a app. Life is already full of technology and easier ways to do things. I am a person that wants to go out and do something hands on and accually work at something
ReplyDeleteThe app that allows you to donate money every time you hit snooze is interesting. I like that it is actually benefiting to someone or something other than yourself, but at the same time, if my husband had it, we would be broke!
ReplyDeleteWith an app for virtually everything, it's creating a society of convenience and laziness. Come on, who really needs pictures of the bar while sitting on their couch? Don't live vicariously through your phone!
I have a few apps that I use regularly. I use the white noise app, the weather channel, and a fitness one that allows me to track each workout.
I am not typically up to date with all the lastest apps.
For me most of those apps seem rather pointless. Well really they all do. But I have and still do use the zombie run app, when you are bored there is nothing quite like spawning an army of zombies that are trying to kill you for a reason to run around town looking like a crazy person.
ReplyDeleteOur world right now is being controlled by the apps, useful or not, there is an app for everything. Though some think this is a passing fade who can really say how long app type programs will be around ?
There are several apps that I use daily, I use the white noise app everyday, while studying and while sleeping. It helps block out the background noise as well as focus you on the task at hand, or just put you asleep.
The app I would like to see created the most is another angry birds.
These apps are kinda of crazy i mean the donating 5 cents to a charity for every time you hit he snooze button is a good idea because they would make bank. i mean today i hit the snooze button at least ten times today. So in a week your are donating a lot of money. All the new apps are just going a little crazy i mean they come out with stuff that is ridiculous like the DuoDater it might work but really i mean get off ur ass and go find a someone thats not on the internet. i really don stay up with the apps i hear about them but most the time they turn out really lame anyways. So i dont really care that much. the only apps i really use are games and i only play them when im in class and bored. A free baseball app that lets you look into the games and actually watch the games without missing a step. Plus be able to jump around and see the highlights and the all top plays during the day.
ReplyDeleteI don't really find any of those apps appealing. If I had to chose one I would pick the music one because sometimes I look some of that kind of stuff up but that's pretty rare. Apps will influence our society more and more as time goes on. They will become more and more complex and user friendly. I recently found an app kind of like adobe photo shop, it is actually pretty cool. I'm not even sure which kind of app I would like to see because chances are that there is already an app for it.
ReplyDeleteI wouldnt use any of these apps. And the app where you can see the places you like on your phone because you are too lazy to get up and go there? Thats really lazy.. I dont stay up to date on apps because they're just ways to waste time when you're bored..and I always have something to do. I dont know any I would like to see created because I dont use them.
ReplyDeleteOf the five apps I really don't think I could incorporate any of them into my life. They all seemed rather pointless and I have no interest in any of them. With more and more apps to download just proves there is an app for everything. Almost anything you can think of, there seems to be an app for that. I really don't stay up to date on the new and current apps. However, I browse the android market now and then, just to check what is out there. One app that I use reguarly is the mp3 download app on my phone. I can download music whenever I want. I cannot really think of one app that I would like to be created.
ReplyDeleteI really don't use apps. I don't want to take the time to download them or bring them up on my phone. I like my facebook and twitter apps on my blackberry but that about it. If I were to use one of the apps it would probably be the one that take snaps shots of the local taverns. This would be cool I could find out if the club was bumping or not before I decided to go. The others just seem dumb. I cant really think of an app that should be created there is already so many out there.
ReplyDeleteOut of these apps I would probably use the Snooze app because I use the snooze button quite a bit and if someone was to donate to a good cause for me being lazy might as well do it! People are getting addicted and dependent and I think that people are thinking less and relying on the apps more and that can't be a good thing. I don't have many apps just a couple games and I don't stay up to date on the apps coming out. If I were to create an app I don't think I could make a new one up because there are so many out there already.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to pick an app I would probably choose the snooze one because it always seems like I have a hard time getting up in the morning. I think the apps are starting to ruin our society. It doesn't matter what the item may be and their is an app for it. I feel this really shows how lazy people are. I do not stay up too date on apps because I don't use any. I am not really sure what kind of app I would want see created since I don't use them.
ReplyDeleteThe one app that i will pick out of the five will be the SNOOZE app for the simple fact of charity giving to the ones who can't afford the finer things in life. the constant onset of apps will have a great effect on life because it would ease the hustle of life and yes I do intend to keep up with the current apps there are out there. I have apps on my phone that i use but not on a regular basis, all the ideas of most of the apps out there are really great but in my opinion an app with music capabilities and 3D map of the places that you are in stats etc.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading about the snooze-to-charity app. I could really use that in my life. I think as more and more apps are being introduced people are realized what apps really provide some utility versus that fun one-time-use apps (like Songify. Really? Autotuning yourself sounds fun until you do it once and then you realize how stupid it is.) While there's this seemingly massive slew of apps out there, we really only use a handful. I've downloaded plenty of apps to my iPhone and I probably only use 6 or 7 of third-party developed apps on a daily basis. I use a lot of the pre-installed apps daily (Alarm, Calendar, Mail, and a new To Do app that I'm become pretty attached to). Among third-party app usage there's good ol' Facebook, Twitter, Netflix, Pandora, Angry Birds, IMDb, and a few others. Having said that, I've probably downloaded 30 or 40 apps that sit stagnant, and will remain doing so until that day I feel like my phone needs a purge. There's a lot of me downloading things I never even use, they just seem useful or cool at the time being.
ReplyDeleteAs far as apps that I would like to see created, I've being looking for a good To Do app for some time, but Apple fixed that issue. I think a remote access app that would allow me to get a glance at the desktop of my laptop would be nice, although I can't imagine how useful that would be on the tiny iPhone screen. I hate to say I have everything I need because I know something will come along that will cause me to ask "How did I ever live without this" but I can't say I have a million dollar idea for an app at the time.
I would choose the "waking up is hard to do" app because im not a morning person and i do hit the snooze button a couple of times during the week. I like that app is donating 25 cents every time you turn the snooze button, its for a positive cause. It would also make me wanna to get up rather then having to press the snooze button because then I'll be spending more money that i could save fro school. I have two apps on my phone that i use regularly which
ReplyDeleteA lot of these news apps affect our society, there were days where people had to use the phone book, use an actual annoying clock for an alarm, use a map to get to where you want to go, and an address book as well. Apps help us locate all these things so we wouldn't have to do all the searching through paperback books. That makes our society lazy and dependable on technology which can not be such a great thing. I use to stay up to date on apps when i first got my new phone last Christmas but then i stop because i was not so fascinated with my phone anymore and the damage that it does to my phone (kill my battery, makes it freeze), and it becomes pointless to have all these apps that you probably don't use. So now, no i do keep up to date with the new apps.
I do have a few apps that i use regularly which are my bank account app, frozen bubble and dictionary. I don't think i have an app that i want to see. What don't they have?
I find apps to be absolutely ridiculous. Honestly, they do not make life THAT much simpler. It probably takes more time to get to the app then to take the time to do whatever you were going to do originally. They are made for lazy, worthless, bored Americans who are gullible enough to believe they really simplify life. I do not have a smart phone, or an iPod touch, or an iPad. I do not want any of those either, I am perfectly content living my life without technology and apps running it. I find apps to be contributing to the ever-growing number of lazy people that are inhabiting this earth. I would never invent an app, I would just get rid of all of them!
ReplyDeleteThe app I found most appealing was the jogging one. It's a good idea to turn exercise into a game. It would really get people into working out and somewhat motivate them to run more. Apps haven't affected me in many ways because I don't think I've ever actually downloaded one, but I play with many of my boyfriend's apps and most of them are pretty cool. There are some that are really helpful and there are some that are just for fun. It's a good way to pass time when you're bored or waiting for someone or something. If I could create an app, it would be one that allowed me to make my boyfriend's Xbox freeze up whenever I needed his attention. I think it would be a top selling app to many girls with boyfriends who are addicted to video games. :)
ReplyDeleteI think that the Snooze app or the music app would work best for me. I don't like getting up so maybe the fact that I have to either pay to sleep longer or just get up would motivate me to do so. I think that we are becoming lazier. Like the duodate app, why cant you just quit being lazy and get up and get out of the house. I dont think that I stay up to date on all the apps that come out. I just use them to put a couple games on my phone that I want to play when I'm bored. I usually use them everyday during class and what not. I don't have any ideas that I would want to create. Any of things that I would want or use or not use are already created.
ReplyDeleteThe Zombie run app I would most incorporate into my life. It sounds like a pretty neat app that would dish out some sweet motivation. I think that all these new apps don't have a huge impact on our society but they all still seem pretty neat. I am not up to date on all of the apps. The program that i use most often is utorrent. I would create the self destruct app, it would make the persons phone blow up and kill the user.
ReplyDeleteI didnt really find any of the apps interesting,i really am not one who pays attention to the apps, on my smart phone i have the market to buy apps and download them but i rarely ever go on there unless there is one that is absolutely amazing or is really appealing to me. I have the facebook app and angry birds and thats about it.
ReplyDeleteI think that the snooze app is something I would use. I don't really stay up to date with apps, but from what I hear some can be pretty useful, but others are just so that people get out of doing things they don't want to do and be lazy! The most ridiculous app that i read about was the zombie one. Really??? What will they come up with next???
ReplyDeleteIf I were forced to incorporate one of these apps into my life I would definitely choose the crowdmug app. I would be the guy that gets paid to creep in all of the bars. I think these apps are great if you like being lazy. I personally don't enjoy sitting around on my iphone all day searching for new apps to make my life a little bit more simplistic. All these new pointless apps coming out every single day is getting kind of old. Society is pretty lame with all these apps. I don't tend to stay up to date on the current apps. The only apps I use on a regular basis are my soundhound app when I hear a song I don't know, and my dictionary app. I can't think of any good apps right now.
ReplyDeleteI'd first like to point out that we've basically blogged about this subject already with the coupon apps but I'll put that aside for now. I would most likely incorperate the Zombies, Run! App. It sounds the funniest and as I am currently trying to get fit I think it would be a fun way to do it.
ReplyDeleteI think apps are a great thing if they have a point to them. Most of them are lame and have absolutly no reason to be created except that someone thought of it and someone else said "why not? Someone will download it." I like the convenience of some things and of course the game apps provide near endless entertainment. I just want to see more apps that are useful in more aspects than just to facilitate laziness.
I don't stay up-to-date on my apps and such because I never really use them. I have some on my ipod and my phone but I don't really use them enough to really have a formulated opinion on them. I use my NFL app quite a bit to check the scores for my favorite team and check their standing but other than that I don't really use apps.
I would make a phone app that does something crazy to catch the user's attention. Its a pet peeve of mine when people don't respond to a text or phone call. It just bugs me, so if I made an app that did something crazy when the user got a text it would make my life a little happier. HAHA
Most of these apps seem pretty pointless to me. However, if I were to download one, I would download the Zombies, Run! App just because it seems like it would actually be a pretty fun app to use. I think all the new apps coming out doesn’t really affect society at all, sure it gives people things to talk about but it doesn’t really affect anything. I have the apps that I use and like and I usually just stick with those. I have a facebook app installed on my phone that I use daily, but that’s about it.
ReplyDeleteOne app that a group of friends and I talked about just today, is you copy someone’s text who is a terrible speller or uses tons of acronyms that just confuses people. Then paste their message into a box in the app, and then it’ll translate it into actual words that make sense. Then you can reply in terms they would understand, so you won’t be using “to big of words.”
The app that i would use often would be "Your get-up-and-go got up and went." It would be awesome to see the bars before you go. I feel that apps are changing why and how we use our phones, but also how often we use our phones. I don't use apps at all, and i could care less about inventing one.
ReplyDeleteNone of these apps are appealing to me. I dont use apps as it is really and i have an iPhone, with the exception of anger birds and cribbage once in a while. Oh and also my gps because I'm just terrible with direction. If i had to choose one of those i guess i would choose the snooze app just because i really would never have to press snooze so i would never have to pay anything. I either get up with my alarm goes off or i shut it off completely and go back to bed. Im not sure what i would create as far as an app, but I'm sure anything i could think of already exists or something close to it.
ReplyDeleteThe app I found most appealing is the Snooze app. I haven't downloaded a new app in a long time but if I had to choose one it would be that one. I like how it gives money to charity if you are being lazy, which will encourage you to maybe only press snooze once in the morning rather than 4 or 5 times. Many of the apps that are coming out in our society today, are extremely useful however, there are a number of apps that are completely useless such as the five mentioned in the article. I don't check regularly what is new in the app world now that I am down at school, but during the summer months when I am less busy and I am using my i-phone 24/7 I am pretty aware of what apps are new and which are the best ones to purchase. Two of my favourite apps are the weather network app and my Facebook app. Both are so easy to use! I can't think of any app that I would create and use regularly that doesn't already exist, which when you really think about it, is amazing!
ReplyDeleteWhich of the five would you most likely incorperate into your life? [I thought the running Zombies story one sounded the best. It isn't celebrating laziness, it's creating motivation. The rest were just ways to justify taking action one way or the other. Lame. This article didn't even know what "The American Way" was. How could it claim these apps were the antithesis? Also, do WE even know what the American Way is? Has it changed since the term came into use? That's what I would like to talk about in this class.] How do you think the constant onset of new apps affects our society? [I think a lot of people are too busy trying to come up with a way to talk about apps in class to bother to check whether or not they are spelling it right. That's professional. But in all honesty, I don't really think we need all these apps. Can't get out of bed? Justify it by donating money! Want to be a horrible person and not donate money? Get up on time! I mean seriously. What does this ACTUALLY say about our society? We are totally unconcerned with doing the right thing and making good choices as long as we can justify the decision we DO make, we don't have to explain it to anyone.] Do you tend to stay up to date on the current aplication advances? [Nope. I don't have an iPhone, don't care about apps. I mean I check to see if I can download any new, fun-sounding games onto my phone or if I can find a program that will let me read books on my phone, or like free streaming radio. But other than that I could really care less what kind of apps there are. Furthermore, if you are using social networking apps or apps that deal with going "out", they are always geared toward larger cities so having them in the midwest is totally pointless. Just like this blog.] Also, do you have any applications installed on your phone, computer, etc. that you use regularly? [Yeah, I have some installed on my phone. Not really so much on my computer. But I actually don't use them that often, I'm usually okay with whatever ones are pre-installed.] Finally, state one app you would like to see created and explain briefly how it would potentially work. ["Won't make it to class" app. It's an app for teachers and students to stay connected. The app would let a teacher know when a student won't be in class. Then, the teacher can record their lecture and send any additional information straight to the absent students. It would also aid teachers in keeping more accurate role call.]
ReplyDeleteThe app that I found most interesting is the Snooze app that donates money to a charity every time you hit that button. Another one that I think it pretty neat is the "Your get-up-and-go got up and went" app. Seeing pictures of a bar or club crowd before you go is quite useful in making a decision about where to go. Being that I have an iPhone, I have a variety of applications that are used daily. Facebook and Twitter apps are used every day along with my e-mail and safari app. Maps, games, and my Detroit Red Wings app are also used very frequently. Now a days it seems like there is an app for absolutely everything and sometimes they can get a little ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteI would use the snooze app because I have a hard time getting up in the morning. I can sleep in really late so it'll help me get up earlier. I think it's a good thing that we have so many. Most of the apps make it easier to get through the day, so now we have apps that can help with almost anything. On my Twitter app I am constantly updating to the latest version of that but besides that not so much. An app that gives you answers to anything you ask it. If you wanted to give it anything from the distance form one place to another, to giving you the answers for your chemistry test.

ReplyDeleteI think I would use the Zombie App the most. It sounds really fun and I would get my workout. Pretty soon people will only rely on apps(which is not good.)I do not stay up and wait to hear about the new apps that come out. I use my facebook app, angry birds app, and bubble blast app the most. If I could create an app, I would want an app that calls the people you do not want to talk to. Maggie and I also came up with the app that prank phone calls people.
I think these apps are pretty cool, but definitely stress laziness! The one that interests me the most is the Snooze app. I think its cool that you have to give something up to be lazy. Apps can be both a detriment and a positive towards society. Although some can be very helpful, others can promote laziness like these five apps do. I don't really stay up to date with apps, as I only have a few. I use my Suduko and Facebook app the most. If I had an app to be invented it would be one that develops legit excuses that you can't be at class, although I'm sure something along those lines exist.
ReplyDeleteI find most of these apps to be pointless. If I had to use one I would probably use the one that allows you to see a picture of the bar before I get my drink, dance, and karaoke on! I do not use any apps really as my cellular device is not a "smart phone". My cellular device would fall under the category of "dumb phone". I think there are some good apps though and if I did have a cell phone I would use the Vancouver Canucks app and stuff like that. If I could create an app if would be an app that gives you an up to date report of the stream or lake you are interested in going fishing at. That would be pretty deadly.
ReplyDeleteAll of the apps in the article are kind of weird but the one I might use is the zombie app. Just because that may be a fun way to get in shape. I think the apps help people in a way but also make them lazy in other ways. I try to stay up to date on new apps that have come out but usually I just don't care enough to look unless I'm really interested. On my phone I do have a few apps but mostly just games to play while I'm bored waiting for something.
ReplyDeleteI would have to concur with most of my classmates and agree the Snooze app may be the only one I would use. Donating to charities is always a great idea, but I'm afraid I would hit snooze a little too often. Maybe this app would actually motivate me to get up in the morning. I am not into the whole "zombie apocalypse" idea, but turning exercise into a game could be an effective motivator for some people to work out. I do not stay up to date on the world of apps in the least, unless a friend finds a fun, new game. The only app I find useful is the weather app already installed on my phone. The one app I wish I had this summer in Colorado was an Altimeter so we knew how far up the mountains we were. I don't know the logistics of created such an app, but that is the one app I would like to create.
ReplyDeleteI feel that the snooze app is something I would use. But I dont really stay up to date with all apps, but from what my friends say some can be pretty useful. But others are just so that people get out of doing things they dont want to do and they wont to be lazy. The app i didnt like was that i read about was the zombie one. What new thing will they come up with next?
