As a society we are somewhat obsessed with searching the internet for information about any topic under the sun. Personally as soon as I am questioning something I turn to Google or Yahoo for the answer. Things such as song lyrics, mathematic conversions, weather, the relationship status of a celeb, etc. The options are endless. What are three things you regularly search on the internet? Read the following article. How many of the Top 10 have you searched this year? Which of the Top 10 interests you the most and why? Which is the least likely for you to search? How do you think our instant searching habbits are changing society? Do you think the constant and virtually instant access to information allowed by technology is a good or bad thing? Why?
http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/web/12/01/yahoo.most.searched.terms/index.html
I have not searched any of the items on that list.
ReplyDeleteThere is no items that I search regularly really, once I have searched it I save the URL for the information and do not search it again.
I use search engines very often when trying to solve a problem. Its the easiest way to access information about any subject. A few simple clicks and keywords and you have any information you might be looking for.
I think that the internet, is a great tool, I think that the constant information that we can access whenever we want is amazing, and to the betterment of our lives.
I regularly search for song lyrics, recipes, and traveling information. Out of the top 10 I probably have searched about one or two. The least likely for me to search is any of the celebrities, I do not really care to google their life. Instant searching habits are changing society by constantly giving us the satisfaction of having an answer right away, which is kinda dumbing us as a society down. With smart phones students cheat on tests constantly, always looking for an answer because they were too lazy to study. There are positives and negatives to search engines that instantly give us answers, just like every other piece of technology in this world.

I have none of the top 10 things on my search list. I probably would have to say that the Oil spill is what interests me the most because it is alot of money that we lost and can affect the economy. The last three on the list i do not care for. I think that is now what people depend on instead of trying to figure out themselves. They just look it up and base their opinion off of what they find. I think it is bad
Honestly I can say I never researched any of the topics on the top ten list. I don't really follow "the latest trends." Almost all of these thing are ones that are in the news. I don't really watch the news because its usually really depressing and I figure that anything that is big enough people will talk about and I will hear about it that way. I usually research things like song lyrics, jobs, and anything someone talks about that I don't know anything about and want to know more. I think instant access is a good thing, I would be lost with out google. I google everything I use my phone all the time to research stupid things.
ReplyDeleteThree things I regularly search are Baseball news, Duck hunting tips and articles, Sports News. I havent searched any of those top 10's. The things that interests me from the top 10 would be the soccer cup and the Iphone and thats it. Justin Bieber would be the last thing i look up. It just keeps everybody up to date very quickly i dont think it is hurting society at all but i think it is making people more knowledgeable about the world around them. I think it is a good thing people are able to get info. right away because once people know about it someone may be able to help and figure out the solution so it is a good thing that people can get info. right away.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have searched for one of the 10 topics. If I had to choose one it would be the iPhone because if my iPod ever quit working I might switch to the iPhone. I regularly search for sports highlights and scores, but not much else. I don't really ever search for celebrities status' I am not interested in that stuff. I think that instant searching is good and bad. It is bad because people aren't learning as efficiently because they just say "I will just look it up" not actually learn the info. It is good though for topics that are hard to find elsewhere and it is easy to search using keywords.
ReplyDeleteI regularly search for song lyrics, traveling formation, and my horoscope. Out of the top ten I've searched Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus, and Apple iphones. Out of the top ten, the ones that interest me most are, Kim Kardashian(I watch the Kardashian's Show), Miley Cyrus(theres this rumor about her), Apple iphone(i want one), and actress Meagan Fox. I Would least search The World Cup Soccer tournament. I think are searching habits are changing society because a lot of people are now relying on the Internet for answers and think that because its on google are what not it is true. I think it is a bad thing!
ReplyDeletethree things i regularly search are basketball stats, urban news and the latest fashion updates.Ive searched two of the top ten; kim kardashian and meagan fox. two very attractive females in my opinion. The least likely for you to search is miley cirus. i don't think our habbits are changing socioety at all, but if they are they are bettering it. I think its a great thing, its opened our eyes to so much more in life.
ReplyDeleteThree things that I reguarly search for are the weather, recipes, and song lyrics. Out of all the top ten choices, I did not search for any of them. I really had no interest to them, you usually will hear about it on the news or radio or even from people who are talking about it. The least likely for me to search is probably the pop stars, I really have no interest in any of them. Our instant searching habbits allow use to find anything we can think of in an instance. With that, it is eliminating the use of hard cover books. With all this advanceness in technology, I think it is a good thing. It is allowing us to find anything we need to know much faster and saves time for us to do other things in life. Instead of going to the library and looking through countless books just to find one thing.
ReplyDeleteThree things that i search on the internet is songs, basketball videos of my favorite players and iphone apps. Out of the top ten i have not searched this year, out of the top ten interest in my opinion i would choose actress Megan Fox, besides that she's very hot knowing why she was not in the last episode of the transformers sequel, the least likely one is Justin bieber he does not really interest me, it's a good thing that you can search the internet for things that you want answers for it's a benefit to society in my opinion, instead of going to the dictionary. yes it's a great thing information is knowledge and the easier you can get the info the better it is.
ReplyDeleteThe top ten most searched topics run very closely with what I would search on google or yahoo. If I need answers to something I heard or a question regarding a homework assignment, I will often look to either of the two to help me out. Out of the top 10 I think I have looked at about 5 or 6 of them, most of them being the celebrities and of course the oil spill that caused everyone to freak out. The one I research the most would probably be my I phone and Justin Bieber, I couldn't live without either of those ;) I think the way society uses websites such as google and yahoo is generally for good causes and to see what is going on in today's world. Google is probably the most used website due to the fact it has everyones answers in regards to absolutely anything; its a website I think many people would be lost without.
ReplyDeleteWhen I go to google I usually search maps so I know how to get somewhere and how long it takes, I also use google when doing different research papers, and recently I have had a thing for looking up cute baby animals thanks to Jeffery. I think being able to instantly looking up things is nice, but sometimes I really don't know how reliable resources are. Other than the three I listed above I really don't search things on the internet that much.
ReplyDeleteI use the Google machine for many things, but my top three would probably have to be quotes, lyrics, and probably research for school. Anything being topics for a speech, how to do math problems, or an answer to a geology question. I’ve honestly never searched any of the top ten, but the one I’d be most likely to search would have to be the iPhone. The least likely would be anything to do with singers or reality TV stars. It’s changing society because people would rather do research online than at a library, but I think it’s a good time because sometimes people don’t have time to make it to a library to do research, so they can just turn on the computer and look it up. It’s making it easier for people to find out information without watching the news. Sure, we may be changing from the past, but I think we are progressing, rather than regressing. We’re moving away from the old ways, and into the future.
ReplyDeleteI don't really use search engines that often. If I do I look for things like song lyrics or symptoms if I'm sick. Other than that I really only use it to look up stuff for school.
ReplyDeleteI searched info on the gulf spill when that was occuring but all the other things except the world cup are really dumb. I don't really care to search any popstars life or whatever.
I think since we can search anything almost anytime is a plus for easiness but is it really a good thing for our society? I don't see the harm in it now but what will happen if we continue down this road? I don't know but I hope I stick around to find out where it leads us.
I have not searched any of those topics. I usually search hockey players to find stats. I search music videos and I search myself to see the most up to date news stories about me. Usually I have nothing new to read about myself. I find the thing where google automatically goes to the page as you type the word you are searching to be so annoying. I disabled this option real quick.
ReplyDeleteThree things I regularly search for are sports results, weather, and song lyrics. I have only searched for one of the top ten. I searched for the World Cup Soccer tournament because I am an avid soccer fan. The least likely topic for me to search would be Justin Bieber. I think this instant access to information is definitely a good thing. I would much rather obtain information on a certain topic instantly than have to spend massive amounts of time sifting through books and such.
ReplyDeleteWhat are three things you regularly search on the internet? [Shopping, song lyrics, anything research-y.] Read the following article. [Okay!] How many of the Top 10 have you searched this year? [Absolutely zero. It disappoints me that those are the things people concern their lives with. I actually want to know if these were actually typed-in searches or if they were featured articles on Yahoo's webpage that were linked to.] Which of the Top 10 interests you the most and why? [None of it. I will consider myself the world's largest idiot when I concern myself enough with a celebrity to actually search them on the internet. The oil spill made me mad. I think it would have been dealt with much more quickly if there hadn't been so much bad press toward it. Accidents happen, let them deal with it. Not to mention that this article was about Yahoo... not the best search engine. Also, main-stream media (like CNN) only report what the highest bidder wants them to report so people get very skewed ideas. If you want to find out about something, find an independent and non-profit weblog that is well-written (like instapundit.com). That will really fill you in and direct you to other places with more accurate information.] Which is the least likely for you to search? [All of it.] How do you think our instant searching habits are changing society? [I think it has diminished our critical-thinking capacity. We only want instant-answers, we don't care whether or not they are accurate or morally upstanding. We just want someone to tell us what to think all the time. On the other hand, I think that online databases and access to professional journal articles has done wonders for students who need to write research papers, or even just for the highly intellectual of the population. If you're willing to put some time into searching you get great results.] Do you think the constant and virtually instant access to information allowed by technology is a good or bad thing? [Generally it is a very helpful tool of the information age. However, as I said earlier, our generation is the helicopter-parent generation. We were always told what to think, not why to think it. Not to mention we were never told to take responsibility for our thoughts OR anyone else's. This is the next hippie generation. Being right all the time and knowing everything is the trend. But we never look at who we're getting this information from. Mainstream media sells itself to the highest corporate bidder so their news is ALWAYS biased. But you can't go too underground for information or it will be biased the other way (down with mainstream corporate leaders!) So it is difficult to discern where our nation is headed with its different sources and ease-of-access information technology.]
ReplyDeleteMe personally have not looked up any one of the top 10 items just because the fact that there is no reason too. The most common thing I look up on Google is how to configure a router or how to do something under the bios of a computer other than that I have no reason to look up any thing besides a music video under youtube.
ReplyDeleteI think that that most of the information is good but private info that you can get is bad
Three things that I regularly search on the internet would be song lyrics, weird questions that I want to know the answer to, or things to help with homework. I have only searched one of the top ten this year and it would be Kim Kardashian because of her wedding. The least likely for me to search would be the World Cup soccer tournament. Instead of just wondering about something we just google it to get the answer. No more wondering or not knowing the knowledge is now instant. I honestly thing that the ability that we have to instantly search questions and other random things is great. We can just know things now instead of waiting around to find out or having to search. The internet can be a great tool to use.

I don't normally look up any of the top ten most searched. The Iphone interests me the most because i am thinking about getting the new iphone. I am least likely to look up Miley Cirus because i don't care about whats going on in her life. Letting you know almost anything that is going on around the world. I feel it's good because it's giving us the ability to know whats going on around you.

When I go to Google.com I usually search as definiteness. So I know what words mean and how to use it other ways. I also use Google when doing different research papers and other recently I have had a thing for looking up wedding dress thanks to my wedding coming up. I think being able to instantly looking up things is nice, but sometimes I really don't know how reliable resources are.

What are three things you regularly search on the internet? If I have free time, I usually search for the latest news across the globe to stay informed on what is happening in our constantly changing world. Next, I usually search for scores of professional sports or the results of recent UFC fights. Lastly, I may try to find some online magazines I can peruse to burn time. Read the following article. How many of the Top 10 have you searched this year? I was very surprised to realize that I only searched the first two of the top ten. Which of the Top 10 interests you the most and why? I think the spill in the gulf remain the most pertinent search topic. It is an event that will effect the habitat and sea life in the gulf for an unknown amount of years. I honestly think we will be dealing with the repercussions of the spill for at least ten years due to our inexperience with such catastrophes. Which is the least likely for you to search? I do not think I will search for any of the celebrities or pop culture topics because I do not see much lasting value in it. How do you think our instant searching habbits are changing society? I truly think our society is drastically being shaped by technology year after year. Growing up, the most advance toy I saw was a Nintendo Gameboy with basically three buttons; but today's kids are being given cell phones, tablets and laptops. These could all be used to make a smarter generation, but reading this article proves that the majority of people are not using this technology to educate themselves. Do you think the constant and virtually instant access to information allowed by technology is a good or bad thing? Why? I think access to the internet is usually a very beneficial asset, but it is being cluttered with so much junk it can be difficult to find quality information. I usually use instant access as a valuable too when searching for big ticket items due to the ease of reading reviews or better deals. I do think technology has hindered our "people skills" because now it is strange to strike up conversation with a stranger; it seems the norm is to text a friend, surf the web or listen to music instead of meet a new individual. Overall, technology is an amazing resource that is continually evolving and is critical to our country's existence.
