What's on your mind?

So we've been talking about things I have found on random websites and thought were interesting and applicable to our class for the last few days and now its your turn.  Go to CNN, FOX News, Yahoo, or a similar website and find a technology related article that interests you.  Be creative, it does not have to directly be about computers but has to incorporate technology in some way.  Post the link to this blog then write about why you found it interesting and how it relates to technology.  Also, include one question or thought that you are wondering about regarding the article.  You can use a similar format that I use to start our daily blogs.  After you are done this you must respond to someone's post....start off by stating their name and then share your thoughts! Have fun and find something that interests you!

PS: GO LOOK AT GOOGLE'S HOMEPAGE!!!

I found this interesting because of all the mistakes people make these days, and the phone changes them to some funny ridiculous saying. People rely on the phone to make the correct changes, when people should slow down and check before they send.

I think that this is the real face of what combat is becoming more and more in our world.
Do you think is going to be a common form of "War" ?

I happened to come across this article about Bill Gates and the verbal shots fired at him from the late Steve Jobs before he passed. Jobs takes uneccesary shots at the now philanthropist, stating he is unimaginitive, shameless and a rip-off. Terms i do not believe apply to the multibilionaire who has contributed to modern day technology as much as anyone. Gates responded with as much class as you would exoect a man of his stature would, brushing off the insults and complimenting the late Jobs and his technological breakthroughs. I find it hard to believe a man like Steve jobs failed to recognize those who basically paved the way for his accomplishments to come to pass, and I go on the record for saying that Gates has contributed the most to the modern day technological scene and without his groundwork, Steve Jobs and his work would cease to exist.

I seen that website and its pretty funny, the iphone is most well known for its autofail feature.
My friend is consistently sending me messages that make no sense at all because of it.

  5. Kalli I loved your article!! I have the most horrible time with auto correct!!! I really do just need to slow down and watch what I send before I send it!

  6. I'm a pretty avid Netflix user, but recent price hikes made me think twice about staying subscribed. I decided to drop DVDs from my package because it didn't seem worth the price - besides their Instant streaming is what we're all really after, isn't it?
Do you subscribe to Netflix? How do you think the price hike affecting their brand's image?

I came across this article and thought it was pretty interesting. Apple is talking about using 3D gestures to control the ipad. I find this interesting because your ipad can be completely across the room and you can control it using hand movements and it also has face recognition. With all this new technology it is beginning to really look like a sci fi movie.

  8. @ Kalli Hamme, I love Damn You Autocorrect. I have a love/hate relationship with the feature itself though. More often than not it corrects things that don't need correcting (e.g., slang terms, shortened phrases) but fails to correct small grammatical things I have to go back and painstakingly fix myself. In becomes on, if becomes is. Apples newest OS has incorporated an autocorrect feature into it's user interface that is surprisingly helpful in correcting small spelling mistakes without being overbearing. Hopefully phones will get it right soon enough.

I think this article is very interesting. Alot of people are turning to some form of technology to send out threats and what not. It makes it easy for almost everyone to read/hear about and will probly start some form of "war" which will probly end not so good.

These boots are made for walking...

This article is about shoes specifically designed for Alzheimer's patients. These shoes are relativity inexpensive (about $300) when compared to the enormous cost of taking care of your loved one. The shoes feature a GPS in the sole. If your loved one wanders outside a designated "safe zone", you are alerted.
The original shoes were developed after the disappearance of Elizabeth Smart, in hopes of bringing missing children home.
Can you think of other uses for these shoes?

This game sounds pretty sweet. I am not much of a gamer though and don't own an Xbox so i won't buy it. I am sure it will be fun like the others and have better graphics. Pretty realistic i guess.... but anyways good win last wednesday to start the year off. Glad to see Alyssa out at the game.

Sam Schell found a pretty net feature on the Ipad. It allows you to controll it with movements. Neat-o gang!

This was an interesting story i think it is really cool that the hackers are taking it under there own control to find the cartels and take them down themselves. It think that this could be how wars become maybe not a big part of it but this could really help the countries that use it to find people like cartels and other problem causers. This could really change how wars are faught.

I hate the auto-correct on my phone it is always spelling words that aren't even close to the word I wanted. I have sent may messages that don't make sense because I do not take the time to go back and look over what I said.

  15. Hollie Riggins what a neat article. I have never heard of that before. Having a gps tracking device in shoes for not only patients with alzheimers it is a great idea for children as well. That would help elimate missing people. Also, having a sandal with an alarm on it to scare away atttackers and muggers is a great idea. You really never know what they will come out with next!

This article is about having a city in the clouds powered by inflatable turbines. It doesn't seem like this would ever happen..but who knows? It would be interesting to see. It relates to technology because new advances in technology is what's making people think of building things like the inflatable turbine. My question would be..how would people get back on ground every day? It doesnt really make sense to me why anyone would want to live in the clouds and have to fly or parachute down to solid ground all the time? The point of the story is about having renewable energy.

Hollie...This article was very interesting, I didnt even know they had stuff like that..it's such a good idea expecially for people with
Alzheimers and even for little kids.

  17. Is Netflix the Next AOL?

Netflix recently had a 60% price jump, which caused more than 800,000 members to cancel. I was a previous member to Netflix, but once that happened, I decided we didn't need it anymore. Does Netflix need to have a better relationship with their customers? Were you ever a Netflix Member? And if so, did this cause you to be angry, and even cancel your membership?

I thought this article was interesting because it is Halloween today and I was curious to see what kind of crazy gadgets people have invented to scare people. I thought some of these gadgets were creative, but most were unecessary and really expensive. I always wonder when I see gadgets like this if it is really necessary and couldn't people spend their time better doing something else. And I always wonder who would buy these types of products?

I think this is an interesting subject because if iPhone can do all sorts of really cool things with apps and stuff, shouldn't they be able to do something about correcting what you are trying to say?

  19. Jennifer,
Your article is really interesting. I can't imagine being able to control your ipad from across the room. This makes me think of the tv commercial for VW where a little kid is dressed like Darth Vader and he attempts to make things move with his mind. Then decides to try it on the family car (his dad starts it from a remote). He's amazed when the car actually starts :)

That is pretty crazy that Apple is going to do that with the Ipad. I think it is a little ridiculous but good at the same time. Cause if you get 3-D put into Ipad, then you can get more involved into the games that you have on your Ipad and get a little bit of exercise, but I think it will be dumb to get into it because i don't like 3-D at all. The glasses hurt my eyes and just makes the movies more fake than they already are. Pretty soon we will have 3-D contacts you have to wear because everything will be in 3-D

Steve Jobs is an icon in mine or any of the estimated 2.5 billion, not only his inventions that are in my opinion the best that technology has to offer at the moment, but his innovation. to quote one of his famous quotes, "Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower" he will be dearly missed. I found this article very interesting condsidering I work in a bank. We have things in our bank now that make things a lot easier for us. One of our latest things is a machine that counts our deposits for us so we don't have to count by hand. It's cool to see that there are even more things possibly coming out as well. Do you think that this new technology will be better for your banking experience?

I thought that that article was pretty funny. My boyfriend doesn't make sense in some of his txts and sometimes his phone even says a word that he is spelling out so he should be able to know what he is saying. Jacob Olson that article of yours really makes me steamed. I don't use netflix but boy does that tick me off. I am currently mooching the movie streaming feature off of one of my friends and if this price hike causes them to cancel their subscription I will really be pissed.

I chose this article because I remember reading this forever ago, and I really liked all of the items on this list! But, my two favorites were the LED infused light table, and the temperature changing tiles for the shower. I could easily see myself having both of those in my future house. The tiles are pretty expensive, and you could make your own LED table.

This article talks about the new advances in technology for 2012. The main focus is on flexible screens for cell phones. Bending the screen would cause the phone to zoom or scroll. The advantage to having a flexible screen would be that the phone will be more durable. We would all like that because I know every time I drop my phone I get scared the screen is going to break. I can't believe that technology has come this far. Fifteen years ago the cell phones were huge and now they are getting flexible screens and becoming smaller and smaller.

I think this would reduce the amount of texting and driving as people wouldn't have to always be looking at their phone. This relates to technology because it shows the growth of the industry.

I agree people need to slow down and reread what they have typed before they send a text. Sometimes I get a text that makes no sense and it is just because people expect auto correct to make changes for them but are in too big of a hurry to actually check and see if it did change their mistakes.

This article caught my eye because it discusses the topic of reducing long distance phone rates from not only your cell phone but your landline as well. Rebtel, since 2006 has been providing individuals in 50 countries with reduced long distance rates when they simply sign up with them. I checked to see the rate per minute to call home to Canada and it turns out I would save about $1.50 per minute if I were to sign up for Rebtel. The programs used by this company make it so that the phone numbers you enter become a PIN number in their system, allowing you to talk to your friends and family no matter where they are in the world! Would you sign up for Rebtel? Why or why not? And what is one downfall you see, if any, with the company and what they are offering.

I think your article is very interesting and it applies to many individuals in our generation today. I have never had netflix myself, however I do have friends who have netflix and they love it! I found this article interesting because my hometown just got 4G coverage a few days ago. I can't tell you how many posts I saw on Facebook about how excited everyone was to get a 4G network. Reading this article kind of made me laugh. It's so ironic, the network we had a home worked fine until they "upgraded" no the service is not the same anymore. 4G service is a new service so it still has so many bugs to be worked out. The phones that worked perfectly with 3G are now experiencing issues since they are not 4G compatible phones. It kind of reminds me of the switch from analog to digital service. Everyone seemed so excited for the switch when the service switched there was less service everywhere.
